Want to write an email in the evening but have it sent at 8 a.m. the next day? Prefer not to disturb a client on a Sunday? Scheduling an email in Outlook solves all of this. The method differs slightly depending on your version; here are both.

1. In the new Outlook and Outlook on the web

This is the simplest method for scheduling the sending of an email :

1. Write your message as usual.
2. Click on the drop-down arrow next to the Send.
3. Select Schedule sending.
4. Choose a suggested time or a custom date and time, then confirm.

The message remains in the Drafts until the delivery time, then is sent automatically.

2. In classic Outlook (desktop application)

In the classic version, the function is called Delay delivery :

1. Write your message.
2. Open the Options on the ribbon.
3. Click on Delay delivery.
4. Under "Do not send before", choose the date and time, then close and click Send.

The email is waiting in the Outbox. Important note: With a non-Exchange account (POP or IMAP), Outlook must remain open and connected at the scheduled time for the message to be sent.

3. Modify or cancel a scheduled shipment

Until the time is up, open the message in Drafts (or Outbox) to change the time, correct the content, or send it immediately.

Does the computer need to stay on?

With a Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com account, sending is done server-side: there's no need to leave your PC on. With a POP or IMAP account in Outlook Classic, the application must be open at the scheduled time.

Can I schedule recurring emails?

The planning is designed for a single mailing. For recurring mailings or campaigns, a dedicated tool is more suitable.
