The role

What does a level 1 IT specialist do at OKTO Solutions?

OKTO Solutions is looking for a level 1 IT specialist to join its service desk. You are the first person a client reaches when something stops working, and you provide technical support by phone, by email and by chat. The job is to identify, diagnose and resolve remote incidents quickly, across a wide range of technology environments, while keeping several files moving at once. Requests come from Quebec small and mid-sized businesses in many industries, so the same morning rarely repeats itself. You assess urgency and impact first, then you fix, then you follow up with the client. Anything that cannot be closed at level 1 gets escalated with enough notes for the next person to pick it up without starting over. The position is based in Trois-Rivières and becomes hybrid once the training period is behind you.

Most level 1 incidents are settled remotely, in the hour they come in.

Working for a managed services provider means seeing dozens of device fleets instead of one. That is the fastest way to build a technical foundation, and it is why level 1 here is an entry point rather than a ceiling.

Key responsibilities

What the job asks of you every week

Six responsibilities, listed the way they actually come up in a shift at the service desk.

  1. Analyse support requests to assess their urgency and their impact on the client’s operations.
  2. Apply established procedures and escalate to level 2 when the situation calls for it.
  3. Install, configure and troubleshoot remotely: workstations, software, peripherals and mobile devices.
  4. Follow up clearly and professionally with the client from the first call through to the resolution.
  5. Document your interventions and keep the internal systems up to date.
  6. Take part in the service desk on-call rotation, like the rest of the team.
Managing priorities is half the job. Several files move at once and some of them are urgent for the client without being urgent for the network. Sorting that out is a skill, and it is one that gets taught here rather than assumed. Our managed IT support service page shows how requests are ranked and answered.
  • Microsoft 365
  • VPN
  • Troubleshooting of applications and peripherals such as printers, monitors and keyboards
