You plan and deliver the IT projects of our small and mid-sized business clients, from the analysis of their existing infrastructure through to go-live: firewalls, switches, wireless networks, Windows Server, Microsoft 365 and Exchange.

The systems and projects administrator at OKTO Solutions plans and delivers IT projects for Quebec small and mid-sized businesses from Trois-Rivières. The role

What does a systems and projects administrator do at OKTO Solutions?

OKTO Solutions is looking for a systems and projects administrator to join its delivery team. You are responsible for the analysis, the technical planning and the execution of a range of IT projects at our clients, working with the internal teams and the stakeholders involved. The role is what stands between a scope agreed on paper and a deployment that actually holds up: structured, secure, and lined up with industry best practices. In practice that means walking into an environment you did not build, understanding it well enough to plan around it, then replacing or extending a piece of it without taking the client’s operations down. Projects run from firewall and wireless replacements to Microsoft 365 and Exchange migrations. The position is based in Trois-Rivières and involves travel to client sites.

Key responsibilities

How a project runs, from first analysis to handover

Five stages. The last one is the one most often skipped elsewhere, and it is the one that decides whether the support team can live with what you built.

StageWhat you doWhat comes out of it
Technical project planning Develop the technical work plan from the scope validated with the client, and define the steps, dependencies, timelines and technical constraints A plan that holds the budget and the deadline
Environment analysis Analyse the client’s existing IT infrastructure and gather every piece of technical information the project needs The risks, dependencies and issues identified before anything is touched
Deployment of IT solutions Install, configure and deploy environments such as firewalls, switches, wireless networks, Microsoft 365, Exchange, antispam solutions and backups A deployment that applies security standards and MSP best practices
Documentation and follow-up Produce and maintain clear, complete technical documentation and update the information in the internal tools Traceability of the changes and the configurations
Collaboration and knowledge transfer Communicate the changes to the support teams and work with the teams responsible for recurring services A structured handover at the end of the project
Where the role sits. The level 1 and level 2 IT specialists handle everyday incidents at the service desk. This role delivers the projects those environments come out of, and the level 3 IT specialist keeps them running afterwards.

What we look for

Skills, experience and technical knowledge

Project delivery in a managed services shop asks for two things at once: enough technical depth to configure the equipment yourself, and enough discipline to keep a plan honest when a client’s site turns out to be different from the drawing.
